Treasure Island is a classic adventure novel that has captured the imaginations of several generations of readers over the decades. Written by Robert Louis Stevenson, the book's popularity has risen to a magnitude few can ever hope to achieve. The adventures of Jim Hawkins and the pirate John Silver are legendary in the world of literature.
The narrator of the story is Jim Hawkins whose parents own the inn "the Admiral Benbow". One troubled evening, a stranger named Billy Bones arrives at the inn and decides to stay there. He begins to spin stories of the sea and especially of the "one-legged man" who he warns Jim to keep a look out for, promising a reward for doing so. Suddenly one day a blind man appears and gives Billy the black spot. This scares him to the point that he gets a stroke and dies. Jim and his mother then find Billy's sea chest and the map of the treasure.
The rest of the story unfolds from this point. Jim takes the map to the Squire Trelawney and Doctor Livesey. A ship named "the Hispaniola" is bought by the squire. The cook that he hires turns out to be the villainous character Long John Silver who hides his true self under the guise of mirth and good nature. The interesting fact about him is that he is also one-legged. The crew then goes against the orders of their employer in lure of the gold that John Silver promises them. Jim then meets the queer character named Billly Gunn who was marooned on the island by his crew mates. After this point, gun fire follows with murderous intent abound. The ending of the story is a rather happy one, I will leave that as a surprise, so i don't spoil the story.
Treasure Island is a must read for those who are into adventure and mystery. The book takes you for a ride into deception, treachery, and loads of excitement which any one would be mad to miss.
The treasure island by Robert Louis Stevenson is perfect for children with its very short and exciting chapters, but it is also perfectly suitable for adults as well who like a really good story.
